PlayStation Games Through The Years
If you made a city consisting of one copy of all the PlayStation games that have been released through the years, you would be left with a very, very large city.
PlayStation games make up some twenty years of video game history at this point. From the first titles that were released with the first Sony PlayStation, to the latest titles available with the PlayStation 4, a lot of PS games have come and gone. If you were to look through the games that have been released through the years, you would have the opportunity to look through a long history of some of the greatest games of all time.
PlayStation Games Then And Now
There have been four official incarnations of the main PlayStation system at this point. From the first PlayStation, all the way to the current incarnation, which would be the fourth, there have been an awful lot of PlayStation games that have been released. It’s worth repeating that if you were to take a serious look at the PlayStation games that have come out between the PS1 and PS4, you would have a pretty extraordinary range of titles on hand.
If you’re new to PlayStation, you might be tempted to visit some of the classics of yesteryear, compare them to the big titles of today, and see how they compare to one another. There is certainly nothing wrong with that. You’re going to find that many of those older PlayStation titles for PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 still have a lot of life left in them. They measure up to games for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 rather well in some regards.
Great PlayStation Games Through The Years
The great PlayStation games through the years often involve franchises. The Final Fantasy series moved from Nintendo to Sony with Final Fantasy VII, and the main entries in the series have been part of the various PlayStation consoles that have been released through the years. This is one example of how you can look at the ways in which PlayStation titles have changed and evolved over the past few decades.
If you were to consider some of the best PlayStation 1 titles of all time, you might consider:
- Metal Gear Solid
- Final Fantasy VII
- Resident Evil 2
- Crash Bandicoot: Warped
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Those are just five PSX examples. Move over to the PlayStation 2, and some of the great titles you might encounter would include:
- Resident Evil 4
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Kingdom Hearts II
- Silent Hill 2
To many, the PlayStation 2 still features the greatest PlayStation games of all time.
But the PlayStation 3 is no slouch either:
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Far Cry 4
- The Last of Us
- Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
With the PlayStation 4 out, it is perhaps unfair to look to that system for a list of all-time great games. Even so, the system already looks like it’s going to deliver a few classic releases.
